The Sun Will Kill Me

Rose Hill Records 2023

This is the story of I Am Fya’s unexpectedly long stay (Covid!) with unwell parents in Barbados and how solace in a surprise friendship with the 6 year old daughter (Amiya) of her father’s carer became art. One day the pair went for a walk, and Amiya, in deep flow-state, sang the entire way, making up songs about how the sun was really hot, and if she touched it ‘the sun will kill me’. I Am Fya got out her phone and pressed record. In the background you can hear Amiya’s flip flops and her hair beads clacking. These recordings formed the inspiration and starting point for I Am Fya’s new single ‘The Sun Will Kill Me’, a laid-back industrial trap summer banger

Find The Ancestors Live @ Patterns, Brighton 2021

When The Rain Fall

“When the Rain Falls, is a piece created to explore how movement, rituals and song can connect us to our culture, homeland, heritage and ancestors. Over the years I have developed a collection of field recordings of nature and environmental sounds and conversations, eavesdrops and interactions with other humans. For this piece I uploaded one of many conversations with my Grandmother and nature sounds to my SP404 sampler which I played randomly and intuitively.

The dance was recorded in my ancestral homeland, Barbados in 2021. My Grandmother sadly passed away last year aged 94. This piece is my first tribute to my wise, powerful and totally hilarious Grandmother, Daphne Glasgow. RIP.

I recorded the livestream for my final assignment of my first year as a digital Music & Sound Art student at University of Brighton, 2021”
